Byron Bay and Murwillumbah Rotary have a focus on Youth Mental Health programs

This focus has resulted in a partnership with Safer Communities to build the Mental Health Literacy of young people and the adults who support them in our community.

Two programs have emerged from this partnership:

1. Sponsorship of Adult Volunteers to attend the 14 Hour Youth MHFA Course

Rotary sponsored places  for adults who undertake voluntary work with young people at the 14 Hour Youth MHFA Course. Learn more about the 14 Hour Youth MHFA Course.

So far Rotary have supported thirteen volunteers from Byron Bay and the surrounding region to access training.

2. Funding for delivery of the Year 10 teen-MHFA Program at Byron Bay High School, Cape Byron Rudolf Steiner School and Murwillumbah High School.

This evidence based program is yielding excellent research results around building the Mental Health Literacy of young people. The program helps adolescents to identify what to do and who to talk to if they or a friend experiences a mental health problem.
