Byron Bay Rotary has a focus on Youth Mental Health programs

This focus has resulted in a partnership with Safer Communities to build the Mental Health Literacy of young people and the adults who support them in our community.

Two programs have emerged from this partnership:

1. Sponsorship of Adult Volunteers to attend the 14 Hour Youth MHFA Course

Rotary sponsored places  for adults who undertake voluntary work with young people at the 14 Hour Youth MHFA Course. Learn more about the 14 Hour Youth MHFA Course.

So far Rotary have supported thirteen volunteers from Byron Bay and the surrounding region to access training.

2. Funding for delivery of the Year 10 teen-MHFA Program at Byron Bay HS and Cape Byron RSS.

In 2019 Rotary support enabled 180 Year 10 students at both Byron Bay secondary schools to participate in the teen-MHFA program. This evidence based program is yielding excellent research results around building the Mental Health Literacy of young people. The program helps adolescents to identify what to do and who to talk to if they or a friend experiences a mental health problem.

This donation of $5500.00 has been made possible by support from the Byron Community of Rotary fundraising efforts. Please support Rotary at Byron Bay Markets, Bunnings sausage sizzles and other activities around the region.

This program has expanded in 2020 under the My Community Grants Program to include all schools in the Ballina State Electorate

Rotary Australia has identified Mental Health First Aid Programs as a target for support in all communities. To locate your nearest Rotary Club to discuss financial assistance to deliver MHFA programs in your community click here
