That's close to 40%.
It's the lifetime prevalence of common mental disorders in Australians ages 16-85 years.
But what's really startling is that this is also the 12 month prevalence of common mental disorders in the last 12 months in young Australians 16-24 years.
These figures come from the National Survey of Heath and Wellbeing 2020/21.
The story is much more complex - in all measures young people are experiencing mental illnesses at greater rate and intensity than other age groups.
